A neighbor of mine bought an LIC policy last year to provide financial security for her family. But, she hadn't paid even the three instalments, when she had to go abroad for an urgent assignment for her company.
In all this hustle bustle of her professional life, she totally forgot her premium due dates and missed her grace periods. She came back to India after three months, remembered about her policy and went to her local office to deposit the due payments.
Her policy had lapsed and she had to pay extra charges to revive it back. Charges that could have been easily avoided.
Sounds familiar?
In fact, It's far too common for subscribers to forget their premium due dates. Many of them miss the grace periods too, and their policies end up lapsing. This can be easily avoided if you regularly check your lic status and keep a close tab on your due dates.
Earlier, getting these details meant you going to LIC branch office or getting in touch with your agent. You may have had to stand in a long queue as well.
But thankfully, LIC has changed all that...

If any number above is not working, you can check for the latest numbers as well as email ids here
LIC's customer care operates six days a week, 8am to 8pm from Monday to Friday and 10 am to 6 pm on Saturday.
They will help you with services like change of address, premium certificates, pension policies (life certificates) and with any other information that you may need like premium points, bonus, loans, plan details etc.
If you are unable to connect to any of the numbers above, try sending an SMS - LICHELP to 9222492224 or to 56767877. Some customer care executive should get in touch soon.
How to check LIC policy details via SMS
You can also get your details with a simple SMS.
You will need to send an SMS in a specific format to 56767877. You may also send this SMS to 9664996649 and that works exactly alike.
If these numbers are not working, try sending this SMS to 9222492224
You can either enquire about the Individual Policy or the Pension Policy. Both have different SMS formats that need to be followed.
The format for Individual policy enquiry is:
ASKLIC PREMIUM/REVIVAL/BONUS/LOAN/NOM
e.g. if your policy number is 343223322, to know your instalment premium, sms ASKLIC 343223322 PREMIUM to 56767877
Following services are available for Individual Policies
- If you want to know instalment premium, send ASKLIC PREMIUM
- To know your revival amount, send ASKLIC REVIVAL
- For amount of bonus vested, send ASKLIC BONUS
- To know the amount available as a loan, send ASKLIC LOAN
- And for details of nomination, send ASKLIC NOM
For pension policies, the format to get information is slightly different.
You will need to send:
LICPENSION [STAT/ECDUE/ANNPD/PDTHRU/AMOUNT/CHQRET] to 56767877.
The codes are applicable as follows:
- STAT - IPP policy status
- ECDUE - Existence certificate due
- ANNPD - Last annuity released date
- PDTHRU - Annuity payment through Cheque/ECS/NEFT
- AMOUNT - Annuity Amount
- CHQRET - Cheque return information
Do note that 56767877 is a premium number and each SMS sent will cost you between INR 3 to INR 10. Use 9664996649 first and only if it doesn't work, try 56767877
Finally, time to reiterate, it's really important to keep a tab on the status of your policy and premium due dates. A lapsed policy is futile and revival will cost you pretty penny which you can otherwise invest and use elsewhere.
If you haven't checked your policy status in the recent past, I will recommend that you find some time, register an account on LIC's portal and do so asap. You may also make use of phone and SMS facilities.
To their credit, LIC has made it really easy to check your policy status and make premium payments.
That's all on this topic...

Sir, my user id and password miss ho gaya hai. Please help. My email address – K***********[email protected]
Dear Kirti,
You should be able to reset your user id and/or password here. If you have forgotten both of them, first try recovering your user id using your policy number and premium amount. Once that’s done you can recover your password too. By the way, I have edited your email out of the comment.
